We have all gone through phases in life where we feel incredibly helpless. Some problems may seem so insurmountable that you can’t quite figure out what to do about them. And in that moment, you may feel like your whole life has gone out of our control. It may feel like you are on a Ferris wheel going round and round, without knowing when you are going to stop.
In moments like those, you can try and focus on a few things that can help you tide over that period.
- Acknowledge Your Feelings: You may feel anger, sadness, anxiety etc when you are going through a tough phase. You should acknowledge these feelings rather than trying to “tough it out” by just avoiding whatever it is that You are feeling. Because it will all just bottle up and will create a toxic environment within yourself.
- Find out the Reasons: It may not be an easy task, but you need to find out why you are feeling whatever it is that you are feeling. You can start by taking a few deep breaths, and trying to find out some of the things in your life that are not the way that you would like them to be. Some people may find their life is going at a break-neck speed. Others may feel that they are stuck in life and going nowhere.
- Talk to Someone: It can help a great deal if you have people in your life who care about you enough to listen to what you are going through. Be it a close friend, a parent or a family member. Go to people you trust, and talk to them about what’s happening. They may not have a solution to your problem, but it will help you a great deal to get it all out.
- Write about it: If you don’t have anyone that you can share your problems with, write about the stuff that you are going through, on a piece of paper, in a diary, or on the internet. Just get it out of your head. It will definitely make you feel a bit better.
- Try to find Inner Peace: If you can, try some meditation or breathing exercises. These things calm your mind a great deal, and you can find some peace inside. Most of our problems have an intrinsic origin so if you can, try to make an inner environment of calm and peacefulness.
- Take a Break: If everything is going at a fast pace, and you feel like you are just going through the motions rather than actually living your life to the fullest, then you should take a break. Go someplace away from all the hectic stuff in your life. Switch off social media, go to a place of peace and quiet and give some time to yourself. Spend some time doing things that you would like to do. A break can do a lot of good to your mindset.
- Think Positively: Try to think positively and reflect on the times in your life when you dealt with difficult periods, but eventually those periods got over. If you don’t have any personal experience to fall back upon, choose anyone you admire and see how they had to go through difficult periods and how times changed for them. It will give you the belief that everything is temporary and this difficult phase in your life will also get over. Look forward to something in the future.
It is natural to feel helpless when nothing seems to go right in our life. But we just have to make ourselves believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel. We have to do whatever we can to get ourselves in the right mindset again, to find joy in the little things in life, to try and control whatever we can control and leave the rest. And at the end of the day, we have to keep the belief that this too shall pass.
